Identity

The UIC chapter of the State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA) mission is to preserve and protect a strong public pension system and healthcare for all UIC SURS members – annuitants as well as employees.

SUAA keeps a close eye on pending state legislation and lobbies in Springfield to be sure that our views are heard.  It informs its members of any threats to their pensions or benefits through a newsletter, emails, and events held at UIC (posted on YouTube for those who cannot attend in person or when events are held virtually).

SUAA has a large, bipartisan political impact because the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) has over 200,000 members of whom 16,000 are SUAA members living in most senate and representative districts statewide.  The UIC chapter has nearly 1,500 members.

Membership is open to all SURS members, including current employees, retired individuals, their spouses, and their survivors who will or are receiving benefits from SURS.  Annual dues can be paid once a year or by deduction from monthly U of I payroll or SURS benefit checks.
